Motivational Monday – SAFTCW! Don’t Get a Snag in the Pantyhose of Your Diet

Happy Monday my MAD COOL FITNESS CREW! It is the week before Christmas. There is a lot of fa-la-la-la-la in the air, food, and STRESS. On the food front, there have been so many FAT TRAPS to avoid in this past week. I feel like Super Mario Bros (yes, that’s how old I am) dodging one doughnut and flying chicken wing after another. This week, once again, at work there was a crazy spread of Christmas themed doughnuts; honey-glazed chocolate doughnut holes (my second favorite only to red velvet cupcakes), and I could have sworn I saw some chicken wings in there too…but I STEPPED AWAY. But sadly a co-worker was not able to STEP AWAY. This person confessed to me they hadn’t had a doughnut in months but they had ONE doughnut and somehow that turned into THREE doughnuts.

I said, “Sounds like your diet is like a runny stocking.” What did I mean?

When you hit a SNAG IN THE PANTYHOSE OF YOUR DIET: GET A HOLD of YOURSELF!

  1. STOP the SNAG before it becomes a FULL BLOWN RUN. Put some nail polish on that thing!
  2. RESET your palate, your blood sugar, and your emotions by eating well. EAT something good. An apple; something green.

DON’T RATIONALIZE and say to yourself the whole day is shot and keep eating bad things, you’ll start tomorrow. With that perspective TOMORROW WILL NEVER COME. NEVER.

DO TAKE CONTROL. Take control of your diet on that day, in THAT MOMENT.

DON’T FEEL GUILTY. Guilt is a wasted emotion. It is ineffective and only causes bad feelings, which make us want to EAT MORE.

ASSESS what went wrong. How did you find yourself double-fisting doughnuts? What were there triggers? You were on your way to “Healthdom” and somehow ended up in “Doughnut Hell”. What went wrong?

LEARN from what went wrong and develop coping mechanisms for the next time you’re in that situation. You WILL BE, so be PREPARED. Try our tip of STEPING AWAY, counting to 20 or 30, and reminding yourself of your goals, which you have written down, right? Say yes.

WRITE DOWN WHAT WENT WRONG and YOUR PLAN for dealing with the situation the next time. You don’t have to tell us, we would like you to on MCF, but write it down somewhere. Writing things down take the thoughts out of your head in the abstract, make them more concrete and give them life.
